Welcome to the Penryn College Sustainability BTEC Home Page
The Penryn College Sustainability BTEC is an opportunity for our Environmental Leaders to gain accreditation for the considerable amount of work they do in raising awareness of environmental and sustainable issues. The BTEC offers students the opportunity to develop their understanding further as well as going through a process of personal growth.
As our young people are going to be the key to a positive and more sustainable future not only do they need to have an appreciation of some of the issues involved but also be self motivated, independent, reflective and creative individuals.
This website and subsequent blogs allows our students to share their research findings and progress made on their given topic areas as they develop a Sustainability Policy for the College. Each of the sections above will form part of the overall Sustainability policy and are the responsibility of our environmental leaders. Information, work and links displayed are all the efforts of our students with the support of our professional mentors and staff. Over time the materials collected here will form the assessment evidence for our Leaders BTEC in Sustainability.

The Roots and Shoots Award - London
As you know you have all been part of winning a Gold Award from the Roots and Shoots International Organisation.http://www.rootsnshoots.org.uk/. This has been down to all your hard work over the last year. However, for the awards ceremony I am only allowed to take four of you to represent the team in London. I have had to choose those people to represent based on a long term commitment to the leadership programme, involvement in activities and self-motivation in developing ideas and projects.
The four students to represent us will be
Callan Hurst - Callan has shown a significant commitment over the last two years, attending meetings and weekend events, taking a lead role in projects, being an important part of the Green Team and an ability to organise himself and others over a range of projects.
Ozzy Lockley - Over the last two years Ozzy has taken a lead role in projects sharing a high level of ideas and commitment to making a change at school, has attended regular meetings during lunchtimes and at weekends and was voted to be our teams representative on the school council.
Jasmine Payne - Jasmine has shown regular attendance at meetings and has demonstrated a confident approach to presentations and working with others. She is motivated by making a difference and has shpwn excellent leadership qualities throughout
Zoe Osmond - Zoe has been a significant part of the team since year 7 giving ideas and energy to each meeting and showing a long term commitment to the leadership scheme. She has attended a wide variety of events and supported the team throughout. Zoe has also shown the most progress in her leadership skills over that time, presenting to a variety of audiences.
I know many of you will be disappointed that you can't go to London yourself and it has been an extremely hard decision to make. However, as you know there will be many other activities and events to attend over the year where, with a continued commitment to the leadership programme, all of you will have the opportunity to attend.
Thank you to all of you for all the hard work you do and keep going!!
